Malbec, Single Vineyard, Doolhof 2020
ABV 13.5%
Tasting Notes
This delicious South African Malbec is made grapes from a single vineyard planted on a western facing slope of Glenrosa type soils on deep shale for natural fresh acidity. The juice spends extended time on skins for greater intensity of aromas and flavours. It has garnet and dark purple colour with vibrant aromas of violets, cocoa and black pepper. The palate has intense flavours of ripe blackberry and plum with a rich and round texture. It has spent a year in oak to soften the tannin and provide added richness for a smooth and supple finish.
Food
Serve with roast leg of lamb, also great with matured cheese and preserves.
Producer
Nestled in the Cape Mountain ranges with a unique variety of terroir and microclimates giving Doolhof the ability to grow a range of varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinotage and Shiraz. A combination of Malmesbury shale, homogenic Glenrosa and Clovelly soils ensure that the roots are able to descend to four metres or beyond. Each variety is planted on soil it is best suited to, allowing successful and optimum ripeness of grapes. The white varietals are planted on the eastern slopes of the Groenberg, which allow the grapes cooler days and less direct sunlight.
