Tasting Notes
The different varietals were fermented separately in small steel tanks to maintain their varietal characteristics. The wine was then aged for 10 months, partly in barrique used previously for Ornellaia and partly in concrete tanks, to obtain the perfect balance between tannic structure and an expression of fresh fruit. In appearance this elegant wine is dark red in colour with a deep concentration of blackcurrant-like fruit balanced with leathery tannins and a scent of cigar box and cedarwood. The mouthfeel is soft and silky, but at the same time supported by a lively acidity that gives a crisp, persistent finish.

Food
Serve with game, especially venison, hearty casseroles and strong cheeses and cold meats.

Region
In the heart of central Italy, Tuscany is one of the most prestigious and celebrated wine growing regions in the world. These gentle rolling hills are not only home to Italy`s culture and language, but also to the grand wine estates of Chianti to the north and the more modest yet superb estates of Montalcino and Montepulciano in the south. Sangiovese is the red grape variety that unites Tuscany`s wine producing districts in its various distinct clones. However, planting of international grape varieties, such as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, have given rise to the world renowned `Super Tuscan` wines.

Producer
Ornellaia was founded at the beginning of the 1980s around the time the term Super Tuscan was coined, to describe the fantastic `rule breaking` red blends that were coming from Tuscany. The first vintage of Le Volte dell`Ornellaia was released in 1991. Just under the foothills near Bolgheri, the vineyards lie just a few kilometres from the Mediterranean coast, which give cooling influences, extending the growing season of the grapes. Acquired in 2005 by Frescobaldi who instated the talented Axel Heinz as head winemaker, who focuses entirely on producing some of the highest quality wines from Tuscany and incorporating a more modern approach to support environmental sustainability.
