Tasting Notes
Chateau Béchereau has been family owned since the early 19th century and has vineyards in Neac on excellent clay soils. Half of the wine is fermented in stainless steel before ageing in oak barrels for 12 months, the other half is fermented in oak. This combination creates a classic, medium bodied claret with a good balance of black fruits, toasty notes and some sweet spice.
Food
Pair with roast beef or lamb.
Region
St Emilion and Pomerol sit next to each other on the right bank of Bordeaux. St Emilion is home to some of the most prestigious wines in the world such as Cheval Blanc and Angelus. Only red wine qualifies for the appellation and is predominately made from Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Pomerol is located in the east of the Bordeaux region, near Saint-Émilion. While most appellations are named after a village or town within their boundaries, Pomerol has no such epicenter. Pomerol is an 800ha gravel bank with boasts the famous names of Petrus and Le Pin and produces wines made predominantly out of Merlot.
Producer
A family business since the 18th Century, Château Béchereau has vineyards on three appellations of the "Right Bank" in the area of the Libourne vineyards. Over the generations, they have endeavored to create high quality wines which are reflective of their terroirs.
