Tasting Notes
Located just 10km from Saint-Tropez between the rugged Massif des Maures mountains and the azure Mediterranean Sea, the historic Chateau Saint-Maur dates back to the 19th century. In 1955 it became one of just 22 estates in all of the Côtes de Provence to be given the elite Cru Classé status, recognising the chateau’s excellent winemaking reputation. The estate’s current owner is Roger Zannier who has worked alongside his son-in-law Marc Monrose to modernise and equip the property for a bright future.
Today around 85% of the chateau’s production is dedicated to rosé wines with a strong focus on indigenous varieties like Grenache, Cinsault, Mourvedre and Tibouren which thrive on these arid and rocky hillsides. L’Excellence is a great introduction to this rising star, offering a taste of classic Provencal rosé with the elegance and grace only seen from the very best local producers.
To achieve this the grapes are carefully harvested from the estate’s finest plots and undergo a short cold maceration in the winery to delicately extract aromas and colour from the skins. The must is then vinified in stainless steel tanks and allowed to rest on the lees to add extra character. This creates a bright and breezy style bursting with ripe peaches and red berries which is reminiscent of the nearby Mediterranean Sea and pairs perfectly with grilled tuna or red mullet as well as octopus and fresh seafood.
Drink now or cellar for up to 3 years. Served chilled.
