Founded in Épernay in 1743, Jean-Rémy Moët made the house of Moët et Chandon the most famous in Europe. The house's rich history includes the friendship link between Napolean Bonaparte and the grandson of the founder, dating from their time at military academy Napoléon was a frequent visitor to Épernay, and the "Imperial" in the name of this Champagne refers to him.
In 1962 Moët et Chandon was the first Champagne house to be quoted on the Paris Bourse. Subsequently as part of the LVMH conglomerate Moët et Chandon took over Veuve Clicquot and other names, its success based on a thirst for innovation and expansion and owns 1000 hectares of terroir in Champagne. Its famous cellars run underground for 17 miles at Épernay. It extended its Champagne interests globally, first in California, USA, in 1973, to become the biggest global seller of Champagne, with production also in South America and Australia (Green Point). This Champagne matured for 3 years is a World bestseller. It is classic in style, medium bodied, from 35% Pinot Meunier, balanced with Chardonnay and with a dosage of 9 g/l.
