This is a fantastic wine for the money, simply delicious, buy a case you won't be disappointed - first class Burgundy without breaking the bank.
Although the Latour-Labille family have been making wine since 1972, Vincent Latour began turning heads in Burgundy after the release of his 2006 vintage, when he was nominated as winemaker of the year by the well-respected local magazine, Bourgogne Aujourd’hui.
He has also been recognised several times as the best new, young winemaker in the Côte de Beaune and in the Côte de Nuits, as the result of an annual blind tasting hosted by local vignerons.
Vincent took over the 8ha domaine in 1998, deciding to bottle the wine they produce (roughly 4,000 cases) rather than sell off their grapes as his father did before him. Of the 8.7ha domaine that Vincent runs, 7ha is planted with Chardonnay, and 1.7ha to Pinot Noir. The name of the winery was changed from Latour-Labille to Domaine Latour, starting with the 2010 vintage.
Since taking the helm, Vincent has made some improvements, such as using whole cluster fermentation, integrating demi-muids and foudres into the mix, and a longer elevage. Native yeasts are also used for fermentation. Larger casks are used to give the wine a greater freshness and minerality — a hallmark of this estate.
