PAUILLAC 2017 - NEW

At this year’s Southwold Group blind tasting it was the turn of the 2017 Bordeaux vintage to come under the spotlight. 250 wines were served blind over three days to a panel of experienced and distinguished experts which included six Masters of Wine and critics from Vinous.com and JancisRobinson.com.
Despite being up against wines with famous names that sell at much higher prices, we were thrilled to see this Pauillac outscore 100 other wines in the tasting. Most of these are extremely well-known including many classed growth châteaux that sell for double the price if not more. To save their blushes, we won’t mention any names, but all that we will say is that this is the best “house wine” in the market today. A classic claret with real Pauillac character and breed – serious, structured and full of cassis fruit. If we told you who makes it there wouldn’t be any left to buy!
"Vibrant ruby-purple in colour. Juicy red cherry and cool blackcurrant on the nose, layered with light notes of cedar and tobacco. The palate is vibrant and youthful, with intense black fruit and a hint of red fruit. The tannins are supple and well-integrated already, this is much more approachable than the dense and brooding 2016 vintage. Sweet and savoury spices add a lovely hint of complexity as the wine finishes with pure fruit and a mineral, savoury edge. To drink now or over the next 8 years."
